- Customer selects items to purchase from an online shop (e-commerce website).
- When customer is done shopping, he/she confirms cart content and selects ‘CHECKOUT’. Depending on the e-commerce website requirements, additional consumer information might be requested during the checkout process (e.g., contact details, shipping details, etc.).
- The customer initiates the payment process by selecting ‘continue with payment’ or ‘PAY NOW’ option
- The e-commerce webserver sends payment request details to the instaPay® WebPay gateway webserver in a HTML form (containing the relevant variables) and redirects the customer to the instaPay® WebPay gateway.
- The instaPay® WebPay gateway validates the data and displays payment information and allowed payment options on payment request page.
- The customer selects his preferred payment method from the list of allowed payment methods
- The instaPay® WebPay gateway checks if the the status of the payment request is Pending.
- If the payment request has been paid or expired or was cancelled, instaPay® WebPay gateway will display a “Payment not allowed” screen with the appropriate reason.
- If the payment request has not been paid, i.e., status is pending, the customer is redirected to the selected payment option processing page.
- The customer completes the online payment process based on the requirements of the selected payment method.
- The involved payment service provider informs the instaPay® WebPay gateway of the outcome of the transaction where appropriate action is taken.
- If the payment was unsuccessful, instaPay® WebPay gateway displays a “Payment unsuccessful” screen with the appropriate reason – the customer can retry or navigate back to the e-commerce website.
- If the payment was successful, the instaPay® WebPay gateway sends a notification to the e-commerce website.
- The e-commerce webserver confirms receipt of the notification, conducts data validation and integrity checks, and processes the result.
- instaPay® WebPay gateway displays a “Payment successful” and redirects the customer back to the e-commerce return page.
- The e-commerce website displays the return page, and the process ends.
